Watercolor Stamping Technique Birthday Card

Paper Craft Crew Tic Tac Toe Challenge #529.

I chose the row: Watercolor, Vellum, Birthday.

For my "Birthday" card, I used the Stampin' Up! Irresistible Blooms & Charming Sentiments Stamp Sets and Wanted to Say & Stylish Shapes Dies.

For my card base I used Berry Burst cardstock and a layer of Watercolor Paper which was adhered onto the card front with dimensionals.

To create the "watercolor stamping" technique, you will need your silicone mat, watercolor paper, ink pads, water painter and water spritzer and have paper towels ready as well to clean your water painters.

The idea for this technique came from watching a video from Lynn Dunn of Stamptastic Designs.  This looked like so much fun, I had to give it a try!
And, bonus for me, it's easier than actual watercoloring!

Start off by adding ink to the silicone mat with your stamp pad.  (I used Bubble Bath & Berry Burst inks).  Tap it several times, creating a row but leave enough room for other colors.
Do the same with one (or two) coordinating stamp pad colors.

Spritz it with water and using your water painter, spread around the water so you don't have too many blobs and kind of blend the two inks together a bit.
If you spray too much water onto the silicone mat, then your image will be too blended in and pretty much look like a blob of nothing.
The best way to create the image you want, is by experimenting with what works best for you.  You only need to spritz water two or three times.

Next, I pressed the stamp directly onto the silicone mat as if you were pressing your stamp into your stamp pad, and stamp on the watercolor paper.
You can create any pattern you want... let your creativity shine!

I love this beautiful flower image from the Irresistible Blooms Stamp Set and just stamped it randomly onto the watercolor paper.  I also added Old Olive ink onto the silicone mat (in a clean area on the mat) and spritzed it with water and used a small leaf image from the same stamp set to add a little more color to my paper.

Let it dry.  You can speed up the process by heat setting too.
And that's it.

This is a super fun technique and I hope you are inspired to give it a try.

A vellum circle was die cut using Stylish Shapes Dies and embossed using the Basics 3D Embossing Folder and tucked slightly behind the strips of cardstock on the left of the card.

The die cut stars are from the Wanted to Say Dies, die cut using Berry Burst cardstock and adhered with dimensionals.

Three strips of cardstock were added in varying lengths and overlapping.  I used Berry Burst, Bubble Bath and Old Olive cardstock.

Gold Trim from the Gold & Silver Trim Combo Pack, was wrapped around the Berry Burst cardstock.  I couldn't get the bow to lay the way I wanted, so I cut another strip of the trim, tied it in a bow and adhered it onto the trim with Mini Glue Dots.

The card with finished off by using the Adhesive-Backed Sequins Trio.

The sentiment is from the Just Wanted to Say Dies.  The background is Bubble Bath and for the detailed words, I used Adhesive Sheets behind cardstock before die cutting so it would adhere so much easier onto the background cardstock.  This was adhered with dimensionals.

On the front of the envelope and envelope flap I stamped a single flower using Berry Burst ink.

Inside my card I wanted to bring the design from the front on the inside of the card and on the Basic White cardstock, added two strips of Bubble Bath & Berry Burst cardstock and added the Gold Trim.

The sentiment is from the Charming Sentiments Stamp Set, inked with Berry Burst cardstock.
I also die cut another set of stars using Bubble Bath cardstock.
